Renato Cecereu Merino (b.1980)
He was born in Concepción, Chile. Painter of Chilean nationality and Franco-German, spanish and indigenous descent. He studied graphic design where he learned perspective drawing,
visual rhetoric, digital photography and illustration techniques for almost three years.
Later he dedicated to work himself to independently graphic designer for marketing industry for five years.
He decides to continue his artistic training in a self-taught way; reading art books, painting
techniques and some years of practice, aiming to achieve a more pictorical and naturalistic image than photographic
or illustrative.
Soon after, the times they demands more freedom of expression and personal vision of art,
which is why he begins to become interested in abstract painting, generating subtle atmospheres
endowed with a more gestural and more haptic language rather than a visual one,
in addition to embody into the discourse of his work the
more essentially aspects of the human being, both in their appearance rational, emotional and existential. He lives and works in Chile.
"Generally I tend to prioritize my moments of meditation or intuition over what I am about to do.
I try to give myself the time necessary to clarify my ideas before starting to produce and this
does not mean that everything is coldly calculated because always happens something. And this is
the complicated because it usually becomes a new starting point. Something that often becomes in a shadow of the artist"
Renato Cecereu began painting his first canvases in 2003 when he ventured into a career in graphic design, although he worked without a defined technique or aesthetic resources, during this period he did so in a naive, surreal and sporadic way, more than anything as a hobby. A decade later he began to become interested in italian renaissance painting, the great masters of ancient Greece and French academicism. But, as well as his interest in figurative art, he also feels deeply attracted to abstract painting, especially american abstract expressionism resulting in a painting with a realistic appearance, although with a strong emotional and psychological charge both in the treatment of stains, brushstrokes and strokes.
